Taken from: Ruth Kavanagh, Labor Market Consultant Employment Development Department The unemployment rate in the San Francisco-San Mateo-Redwood City MD was 7.7 percent in March 2012, up from a revised 7.6 percent in February 2012, but below the year-ago estimate of 8.5 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 11.5 percent for California for California and 8.4 percent for the nation during the same period. The unemployment rate was 7.0 percent in Marin County, 8.1 percent in San Francisco County, and 7.5 percent in San Mateo County. Between February 2012 and March 2012, the total number of jobs located in the West bay counties of Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo advanced by 6,200 jobs to tal 965,600.
Between March 2011 and March 2012, the total number of jobs in the Est Bay climbed by 27,200 jobs, or 2.9 percent. Total private nonfarm jobs rose by 3.5 percent.

ROP 2012-2013 CalendarThe University of California Curriculum Integration (UCCI) InstituteThe University of California Curriculum Integration (UCCI) InstituteThis professional development institute brings together academic and career technical high school teachers, administrators, and experts from across California for a 4-day training dedicated to "a-g" course development. Teams will be formed to design innovative model courses that integrate Career Technical Education (CTE) and "a-g" curriculum capable of statewide implementation. Graduates of the UCCI Institute are able to develop integrated courses, serve as members of the UC Cadre of Experts, and will be given preference when applying for the Curriculum Integration Project (CIP) Grant Program. UCCI Institute: Green Curricula for Subject Areas A and D The Fall 2011 Institute will focus on developing integrated model courses with a "green" theme in the subject areas of History/Social Science ("a") or Laboratory Science ("d") in conjunction with any of the following CTE industry sectors:
Application Process - APPLY ONLINE NOWAll prospective participants must submit an online application including a conceptual abstract that demonstrates concrete ideas for integrating academic subject area content with relevant career technical elements. Any combination of the above subject areas and industry sectors with a strong "green" theme is acceptable. All accepted applicants will be placed in Curriculum Teams based on similar interests; each team of 6-10 participants will work collaboratively to develop ONE unique course. We welcome both individual and group applications. For the Fall Institute, we especially encourage group applications from a “green” academy or pathway at one school or at different schools in the same district. Please ensure that you review the Expectations of Course Developers before you apply. The deadline for fall Institute applications is: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2011 by 5:00 PM. CostsAll costs associated with institute attendance, with the exception of travel and substitute costs, will be covered by CTE funding from the California Department of Education. UC encourages districts and schools to cover travel and substitute costs for selected applicants.
